In this model, event i.e. the external The George Gerbner cultivation theory looks to see what the outcome of television is on humanity from a long-term perspective. Its proposition is that as people spend more time watching characters and identifying with social situations that occur in their favorite shows, they will attempt to believe that social realities must be aligned to create similar circumstances. Cultivation theory proposes that repeated exposure to media over time influences perceptions of social reality. Originated by George Gerbner in the 1960s, this theory is most frequently applied to television viewing and suggests that frequent television viewers’ perceptions of the real world become reflective of the most common messages advanced by fictional television.
